The Mt. Arlington Public School is located
along the eastern bank of Lake Hopatcong. It is a dynamic and successful
elementary/middle school with an enrollment of approximately 325 students in
grades 3 through 8. Along with well-maintained classrooms, the facility
contains a fully equipped computer lab, a modern art and music suite, and a
state-of-the-art media center.
We provide a balanced academic program and utilize a variety of learning styles to meet the individual needs of our youngsters. Children are taught to develop their independence and become life-long learners, as well as refine their decision-making, critical thinking, and social interaction skills. The school’s diverse instructional program provides all students with challenging and unique experiences, as they transition from childhood to adolescence. Students are encouraged to improve their organizational skills, discover personal strengths, respect diversity, and build a positive self-image. Our well-rounded curriculum is comprehensive and has been designed to fulfill the requirements of the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. Subjects include Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and World Language. Courses in Physical Education/Health, Art, Computers, Music, and Study Skills are also offered. Technology, as a learning tool, is an integral part of our program. In addition to at least one computer in each classroom, there are wireless laptops available for instruction. In-service training has been provided and students, teachers, and parents are able to communicate through e-mail. The children learn, not only basic computer skills, but also how to utilize technology to help solve curriculum-based problems. Through co-curricular offerings, such as clubs and sports, students are encouraged to participate in an assortment of opportunities for developing their interests and leadership. These varied activities include art, computers, drama, music, student council, and yearbook. Our athletic program consists of cheerleading, intramurals and interscholastic competition in basketball, soccer, and softball. These initiatives support our commitment to the students as they progress to secondary education as academically, culturally, and athletically well rounded young men and woman. To address our goals we employ a highly trained and dedicated staff of professionals that provide the programs essential to developing the potential of each child. This group of talented educators works tirelessly to create high quality and exciting classroom activities in a positive student-centered atmosphere. Throughout the year, our teachers attend conferences and workshops to keep them at the cutting edge of awareness concerning the most recent educational practices and procedures. Upon return, faculty routinely share their new ideas and strategies with colleagues. We take pride in our school and acknowledge the significant role that the Parent Teacher Association plays in helping us succeed in our mission. Through their support, the PTA annually provides students with a variety of services and enrichment activities that reinforce, expand, and complement the instructional program. Working together as partners with parents and the community, we will continue to meet the challenges of the future while striving for excellence.
